Born in Sydney, Anna Fraser holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and completed a Graduate Diploma in Vocal Performance at New England Conservatory in Boston in 2002. Among the distinguished awards she has received are a Queen's Trust Grant for Young Australians, a Centenary Scholarship from the Foundation for Young Australians, and an Australian Elizabethan Theatre Trust Scholarship, which facilitated her study in the United States. During her studies in Boston, she performed the roles of Musetta (La bohème), Elektra (Idomeneo), Marie (The Daughter of the Regiment) and Eurydice (Orfée aux Enfers) and the title role in Alcina in staged opera scenes. She also sang with the Conservatory's Contemporary Ensemble including a performance of Berio's Sequenza III.

In 2002, Anna Fraser attended the Britten-Pears Young Artist Program in the United Kingdom and was a soloist in Handel's Dixit Dominus and the masque Acis and Galatea at the Aldeburgh Festival. Performance highlights in Sydney have included roles in Pinchgut Opera's productions of Monteverdi's L'Orfeo (Speranza) and Rameau’s Dardanus (Une Phrygienne), the role of Jane in the world premiere performance of Ben Loomes’ opera The Boat, the role of Beatrice in an Australian operatic adaptation of Goldoni's Venetian Twins and a solo recital broadcast on ABC Classic FM. With soprano Jane Sheldon and pianist Sally Whitwell, Anna co produced and performed to sell-out crowds the uniquely devised cabaret show Degüster: A Cabaret or Food, Fine and Gluttony performed at Sydney’s Bar Me.

Anna Fraser performs extensively with Sydney's professional vocal ensemble Cantillation and joins Pinchgut Opera in their annual productions at the City Recital Hall Angel Place. She frequently presents Baroque recitals with The Tall Poppeas; in May 2006 she appeared with the ensemble in Perth, presenting their program Too Hot to Handel?, which also features in the 2007 Government House Concert Series. In 2006 she appeared as a soloist with Sydney Philharmonia Choirs in Pomp and Madness, a musical recreation of the coronation of George II; in 2007 she works with the company again in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. As a guest artist with The Song Company in 2007, Anna joins the Company as a permanent member for their 2008 Subscription and Touring season.
