LEONIE CAMBAGE, a Sydney born Soprano, graduated from the NSW State Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music in 1985 and a Diploma of Operatic Art in 1989. Since then she has performed as a soloist with many leading performing arts companies including The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Sydney Theatre Company in their production of "Into The Woods" and The Song Company.

In 1990 she joined Opera Australia singing supporting roles and in the chorus until in 1993, when she left to pursue a diverse range of performance and production opportunities. In 1992 Leonie co-founded Three's Company Opera, a company dedicated to bringing opera and music theatre to children. She appeared in major roles in its production of "Abigail and the Bushranger" at the Sydney Opera House and in a specially commissioned work, "Beanstalking" at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. Leonie then performed in and re-directed "Beanstalking" for the Brisbane Festival of Winter. Continuing her interest in performing for children, Leonie co-founded the group Incy Wincy which toured throughout Queensland, NSW and Victoria under the auspices of ABC for Kids. Incy Wincy also released the successful CD's "Let's Dance" and "Just Hang Loose". During 1995-1996 Leonie developed a show introducing children to the music and instruments of a symphony orchestra. The show was performed and recorded with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra to great acclaim. Leonie also directed and developed the live production of "Postman Pat" for Childsplay Productions, also performing the roles of Granny Dryden and Mrs Goggins.

Most recently Leonie has concentrated increasingly on expanding her directing skills in opera and music theatre. Her first projects included regular classes in opera performance and vocal technique, opera workshops and a production of "Sweet Charity" for the group Opera West during 1997 and 1999. In 2000 Leonie co-devised and work-shopped "Shifting Positions" a theatre piece for string quartet and actress, presented at the Sidekick Theatre. Leonie joined the Sydney-based Cut Theatre Company in 2001, operating lighting and sound for their innovative productions of "King Lear" and "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" and made her directing debut with The Tall Poppeas in its first production of "Troppo Amore" at the Mittagong Playhouse.  In 2003, she directed a new Australian one-act opera "The Boat" for Sherbrook Productions as well as re-writing and directing "Troppo Amore" for the Tall Poppeas at Darlinghurst Theatre's In the Raw Festival. In 2004 Leonie was appointed Resident Director of The Tall Poppeas and directed the group's first and very successful concert series in Sydney, titled "Beyond the Moon" and later that year she again directed The Tall Poppeas in "Troppo Amore", for the Melbourne Fringe Festival. 

In 2005 Leonie devised and performed the character of Maggie McHaggis for The Tall Poppeas' "Too Hot For Handel?" concerts in Sydney '05 and Perth '06 reprising this role December '07 for the Historic Houses Trust "House Music" concert series. In October 2007 Leonie also directed a critically acclaimed production of the G & S double bill, Trial by Jury and HMS Pinafore, for Babirra Music Theatre in Melbourne.
